How To Start A Digital Marketing Agency In 2024

Want to start a digital marketing agency in 2024? What if I told you that you could run this from anywhere in the world, completely remote, and be a digital nomad? 

In this article I'll show you the exact digital marketing business I would build if I were starting from scratch, and share a very special app that I would use it for!

I’ll show you an incredible and demand driven strategy in just a second, but let me give you some context first:  

One thing I LOVE doing is being on the lookout for ‘problems’ that can be solved, then creating a solution, then making money by solving that problem. 

That’s one of the reasons why I created a course showing people step by step on how to build out the most crucial parts of an online business (email list, lead magnets, courses, sales & checkout pages) using my favorite ‘all in one app’ for coaches & course creators: Kajabi.  

People fear tech. Kajabi solves that problem by making it so easy to build a highly effective online business all in one place. Things like building a website, web pages, funnels, lead magnets, events, paid & free podcasts, communities, courses, 1x1 coaching & group coaching (without needing multiple systems & complex integrations). 

But here’s the thing, people not only fear tech but don’t know how to apply ^ those things into their business.  

What this does is create a huge ADVANTAGE for coaches/entrepreneurs who know how to use those tools because they create leverage and work for you while you sleep by bringing in leads and sales.   

And creates a big DISADVANTAGE for coaches/entrepreneurs who are afraid to learn these things.  

Right now, there is a HUGE OPPORTUNITY for creating a service-based business or side hustle by helping other entrepreneurs build out their digital assets. 

When people ask me what apps I use to build out all of my stuff, I refer them to Kajabi. 

About 30-40 percent of those people ask me if they could hire me to just build it out for them.   

I love building in Kajabi, but I don’t need extra income in my business, so I refer them to my favorite VA. 

If I did need extra money, I’d be scooping up these projects left and right.  

Turns out there is a HUGE need for services such as:  

Building out websites, landing pages, lead magnets & funnels. 

  • Email Marketing.
  • Creating courses.
  • Creating & managing communities.
  • Ongoing maintenance.
  • Business strategy & consultation.

I’m one of those people that LOVES to outsource the stuff that I don’t want to do myself.  

Even though building all these digital assets is EASY to do with Kajabi, there are a lot of people who:  

  • Don’t realize how easy it is (they perceive difficulty)
  • Don’t want to do it.
  • Don’t know how to do it.

There’s so much demand for it that Kajabi actually rolled out a marketplace called ‘Kajabi Experts’ where you could get vetted from them and they give you leads!

How to build a service-based business or side hustle:  

Step 1: learn how to use Kajabi by taking this free step-by-step course and build out your own digital assets first. The full scope of possibilities within Kajabi exceeds the contents of this course but master the basics first. 

Step 2: get a few case studies & results by helping other entrepreneurs you know by building their assets for them. This will give you more experience plus you can ask them to write you a testimonial. You can do this for free or charge for it, but the most important thing is to get some experience, examples/case studies and  

Step 3: start getting clients.  

Finding clients is easy, there are tons of coaching or entrepreneur communities, both paid & free, with people posting daily asking for help.  

There will be people requesting help in the “Kajabi Hero” Facebook community as well. 

On top of that, you can apply to become a Kajabi expert and start tapping into leads directly from the source! 

And this doesn’t even include creating your own outreach strategy to find more clients. Use LinkedIn and other social platforms to connect with other creators, coaches & consultants. Build those relationships and become the 'go to' for this type of knowlege.

While this isn't my core business interest, I could literally start a Digital Marketing Agency so easily just because of my contacts and connections. There is no downside to building out a network! 

Monetize in several different ways:  

Once you’ve acquired the skill set of building in Kajabi + learning about digital marketing, you can monetize in multiple ways.  

1 - Charge for bigger projects: create package deals, these could be $3-10k packages that allow you to build out multiple projects at once (for example a package that includes a website, 2 funnels, 2 lead magnets & blog set up).  

2 - Charge recurring services: such as updating the blog/site and weekly email marketing; or managing a community that is built within Kajabi. 

3 - Sell templates: if you like graphic design you can easily export your own landing pages and sell them!

I've included a few of my high converting templates inside this free course but you can literally charge for templates like Penny does! Penny has a gift for graphic design and uses Kajabi to create attractive templates that she exports and sells to other people! 

4 - Create Passive monthly income as an affiliate: if you are using a growth or pro plan in Kajabi, you get access to the Kajabi partner program where you can make monthly passive income just by having your clients use Kajabi.  

You can refer to other people (like I do) and make passive even if you aren’t providing services, but ideally you are making money from projects, recurring services AND affiliate income!  

This can add up to be a lot!  

5 - Business Coaching & Consulting: here’s the reality, if someone comes to you to buy ONE service, like setting up their website or email list, they probably have a lot of other needs as well!  

You can sell services (do it for them) & you can sell strategy (teach them how). The business coaching & services space is vast and just finding a niche doorway of something you offer can open up countless other offers that you can sell. 

6 - Scaling: what's great about building a services based business is once demand exceeds your capacity then 2 things can occur: Rates go up and you can outsource, both allow you to create more money. 

These days its easy to hire VA's (virtual assistants) that can take on projects for you. There are VA's that specialize in using apps like Kajabi, so if your demand grows beyond your capacity or you simply want to scale, then start to transfer projects and workload over to a VA (you can find on LinkedIn, Upwork and Fivver). 

This is the essence of a true business owner, being the person who assembles systems that can scale.

7- Expand apps - Once you've built your digital marketing company based around the app that gives the most reach, then you can expand to other apps like Click Funnels, Active Campaign, Convert Kit and do the same thing! Become an expert in those then do work for others and collect affiliate income from people that you sign up! 

Create a ‘value ladder’ with multiple offers and multiple price points to service the needs of your clients that includes active, passive and recurring income.  

Even if you don't want to ultimately create a business like this, its a great way to create some extra income in your business while perfecting the skills that can help you master your own online game!
